Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches

My wife is crazy. I suppose everyone is probably a little crazy, but sometimes I forget that. Recently my wife was stricken awake from a nap, apparently inspired. Inspired to make fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

I was immediately horrified. Wasabi ice cream, nacho cheese & anchovy smoothies, Ham & jellybean casserole; these are all food creations that belonged in the same league as fried peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, I was sure. But when you live with someone, you have certain obligations to try their food. Even if it does seem like an idea worthy of Dr. Frankenstein.

So I expanded my culinary horizons, into territory I was positive was better left unexplored. But it turns out I was wrong. Wrapping a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in pancake batter, and pan frying it tasted pretty good. And I realized you're not really exploring life if you only go where you're comfortable going or know you'll like. From time to time we all need to listen to people we disagree with, try things that sound scary, and eat fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

  1. Haha, I would like to add that Wasabi Ice Cream you actually liked. :) Is it still on your list of unquestionably gross food items? -Misty

  2. Haha, that is freakin awesome. I love that you guys actually took pictures of the process. You guys should patent that idea (if it isn't already).

  3. I've heard of fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. You know what else is good? Fried mozzarella sandwiches. But you use an egg batter instead of pancake batter. Then you dip them in hot sauce. Mmmmm.

  4. I do love fried mozzarella sticks, so I'll have to try the sandwiches sometime. And if it's anything like the equivalent jump in quality from fish stick to fish sandwich, I'll be very pleased.
